So you want to be a Kart Driver? Here’s how to get your engines running!
You can find the entrance to Goofy Speedway directly from the main Toontown Playground. You can race anytime! There is no laff limit, so you can start racing as soon as you create your toon.
Once you head on through the giant tire tunnel, you’ll want to hit up the Kart Shop. Once inside just talk to one of the toons behind the desk and get your first racing kart!
You get a starting amount of 200 tickets which is enough to purchase the cruiser. We all start with the same kart, but as you start winning races and earning tickets, you’ll be able to customize your kart.
Once you have gotten your kart, head on out to join a race!
First thing you’ll see is the big scoreboard that is in the middle of the all the starting gates for the different race tracks. If you can get on the scoreboard you will earn extra tickets. Daily will get you 10 tickets. Weekly gives you 100 tickets, and All-Time will gain you 1000 tickets.
Now about the actual racing.
There are 3 different track areas, each with 4 gates. You will need to pay close attention to the signs above the gates as they rotate between different tracks. The two left gates at each area are practice races. The practice tracks do not cost any tickets to enter. This is a good place to get the feel of the track and you get 20 tickets if you win! Just put your kart on the race you want to enter! Up to four toons can race on each track.
Once you feel ready you can head on to the real racing. These tracks cost tickets to enter and you need at least two toons in order to go on the track. If you can beat the qualifying time, you get your entry tickets back!
Here’s a look at the different track areas.
Stadium Tracks ~ these are the easiest of the three areas. Entry to these races are relatively low. You have two different racing tracks to choose from, the Screwball Stadium (50 tickets needed for entry) and the Corkscrew Coliseum (75 tickets needed for entry). Each track consists of three laps.
Rural Tracks ~ these tracks are medium in difficulty. The two tracks that you can choose from here are Rustic Raceway (100 tickets needed for entry) and Airborne Acres (150 tickets needed for entry) .
Urban Tracks ~ These tracks are the hardest to run. They are the most expensive of the tracks to race on, but you get a lot more tickets if you win! As with the other two racing areas, you will have two tracks to choose from, Circuit City (300 tickets needed for entry) and Blizzard Boulevard (400 tickets needed for entry).
Tournament Races
Tournament races are held every Monday in Toontown. Instead of entering a race, you will enter a circuit. There are two circuits, each with three consecutive races. Points are given after each race. The toon that ends up with the most points at the end of the circuit will win the tournament.
How to Race:
Racing is very easy and straightforward to do. You will use your arrow keys to navigate the course.
Up ~ will make your kart move forward
Down ~ this is your brake
Left ~ moves your kart to the left on the track
Right ~ moves your kart to the right on the track
Ctrl ~ this key will allow you to use a gag (does not work on practice races)
You will see a countdown from 3, and when the word GO! comes across your screen, start racing! You will encounter three red arrows along the track. Run across them! This will accelerate your kart to a much faster speed. Once you have crossed the finish line, a box will appear showing you how many tickets you earned.
Once you have mastered your racing skills and earned a few tickets, you can head back to the shop to soup up your kart!
Kart Styles ~ You can choose to pick another style of kart. You can upgrade to a Toon Utility Vehicle, or pick the ultra sleek looking Roadster. All the karts perform the same, so its all in what style you prefer.
Accessories ~ There are quite a few different accessories you can choose to put on your kart. Here is the list of the many accessories you can choose from:
Hood ornaments
Rear spoilers
Front fender, horns, side pipes and sideboards
Rear fender, tail pipes, fins and mud flaps
Hubcaps and wheels
Decals
Colors
You can only showcase one of each category. If you get tired of a certain accessory you can delete them, but since you can save them and use them on other karts that you might buy, I would suggest just saving them.
Once you have decked out your kart you might want to show it off. Just head on over to Pit Row to display your kart. Goofy thinks of everything doesn’t he!
Racing Gags
One added bonus to racing your karts beyond the practice tracks is the fact that you get to use gags against the other racers! As you race along the track you will see a group of four presents. Run over one to get a race gag. There are four different types of race gags:
Anvil ~ when you use this gag it will drop an anvil on to the kart that is in first place. This will cause the racer to come to a stop.
Banana Peel ~ use this gag to get your opponents to spin out and slow down. Watch out though! You can run over your own peel and slide out yourself.
Pie ~ when you use this gag you will throw a pie out at a kart that's in front of you. If you land on the kart you will make a big cream splat on the window of the other racer, making it hard for them to see.
Speed Boost ~ this is not really a gag. It will cause you to speed up, just like the arrows that you run over on the track. Unlike the placed arrows, you can use this speed boost when you feel it will help you the most.
What else does the winning racer get at the end of the race? Why a trophy of course! Toontown has many racing trophies for you to acquire. There’s even another bonus to trophies, laff points! For every 10 trophies you get, you will also gain an additional laff point trophy which will add one laff point to your toon. Following is a list of all of the available trophies:
