Hey Kids, we had the awesome opportunity to meet up with the crew from Wizard 101 recently and get some more of the scoop on their upcoming MMOG. We wanted to share some of it with you, so read all about the card system, pets, combat, and more below!

1) Tell us about the Card system.
This game is a CCG (Collectable Card Game) at heart. It’s the same kind of concept as a pokemon or a Yugio. The key difference is in the Online version. When you play other games, they show the card on the screen, and it might sparkle a bit…but in Wizard 101, if you play a card, that creature actually appears. It’s much more interactive. We took the cinematics of an older game, added the CCG, and put that in this virtual world. The cards do have a possibility of fizzling off and failing to work.
There are also Treasure Cards that can be found throughout the world, through quests, that become a side deck that players can use. They can be for emergency one time use.
2) How many decks can a player have?
Players can have 100 decks in their bank
3) Is there a Pet System?
There are pets in the game. They don’t do a whole lot right now, however everyone gets them. You can color code them and give them names. It’s amazing that players will spend hours just to get one. We are going to do a full Pet Olympics at some later point. They can affect your attributes (like give you health buffs). They can also shuffle cards into your deck. There are about 50 different pets available. Several examples are: Piggles, Dragons, and Ninja Pigs. Players can own a bunch of pets, but can only play one at a time.
4) What is the transport system? Will there be mounts? Or flying brooms?
Players will be able to teleport to their friend instantly. Players will be able to look on their friends list, click on their friend, and teleport there to help them.
5) How does the class system work? Will players be aligned to a class or can they use any spells they want to learn?
Players will choose a school of magic initially, and all those spells will be free to learn. BUT, they will also earn points as they level, to spend in other schools of magic if they would like to dabble in those as well. For example many people choose to be Fire Wizards and also spend points in Ice, or Death and Life…etc.
6)What is the level cap?
At this point it is level 50. Players will be Grand Masters at that point
7) Since anyone can join the combat at any time, so how will the be loot split up?
It is a completely cooperative experience…there is no kill stealing because everyone gets the reward when npc’s are defeated. All the players that get pulled into a Duel Circle will get rewarded. Players cannot be pulled into a duel if they are on the sidewalk in the beginning levels, as players advance in level the ‘safe sidewalks’ will be more complex and harder to find. For example, in Kroktopia there are no longer clearly defined sidewalks, players will have to remember to ‘hug’ the side to be safe. Also in Barley zone you have to weave your way through the monsters to be safe.
Hey kids, this game is really cool...Keep checking back with us, because we have even more exclusive content to come!
