The Staff at Ten Ton Hamster was able to catch up with Magi-Nation's Ken Locker to do an exclusive interview and get some super cool screenshots just for our readers! Check out all the neat things he had to share with us below!
1. Please give us an overall look at Magi-Nation as a game. What can players look expect?
The look and storyline of Magi-Nation: Battle for the Moonlands is based on the children’s animated television series and the gameplay is inspired by the Collectable Card Game, so anyone interested in either of those are really going to like the online game. In terms of gameplay, the focus is on battles, gaining experience, moving up levels, collecting Dream Creatures and exploration. The online game is free to play so everyone reading this article should give it a try and experience it for themselves!
2. How has the player community been? Are fans able to meet up and play easily with their friends?
The player community for the game is great. It’s a mix of players who join to play because of the television show and those who are familiar with the card game. The gamers who used to play the collectable card game are very quick to give us their opinion on how the new game resembles the card game and where it is different. One of the members of the design team has been with Magi-Nation practically since the beginning, and he’s let us know which items have changed and which have stayed the same. So when we read the exact same comments from gamers, it gives us an additional appreciation for the Magi-Nation universe and it’s very strong and dedicated fan base.
3.You recently did a promotion with the WB Kids! Network, can you tell us about it?
Cookie Jar teamed up with Kids’ WB! on The CW for a promotion that gave viewers a chance to be entered into a drawing to win five dollar pre-paid game cards. As a result of the promotion, traffic to our www.Magi-Nation.com literally quadrupled and thousands of players received the free pre-paid game cards.
4. What is your personal favorite part of Magi-Nation as a player?
My favorite part of the game is the combat system. It’s very easy to learn, but the more you play, the more you realize that it’s very deep and complex. For example when you begin the game you only have one Dream Creature to help you in battle, but as you enter battles, you collect Dream Creature shards and you use those to add more Dream Creatures to your army. You also get experience points at the end of a battle that you can either use to level up your character or to level up your dream creatures; it’s totally up to you. So you can have a very powerful Magi, with weak dream creatures or you can have an even balance between your dream creatures and your magi. Also you can equip your avatar with relics to improve their abilities in combat and you can also use artifacts to help get you out of tight situations in a battle.
5. Is there something you really want to let players know about for Magi-Nation?
We are very proud of the game the team delivered and once gamers give it a try, we think they’ll be pleasantly surprised. To all the fans of the current game, we want to thank them for their feedback to let them know that we are listening to their comments.
