Freaky Creatures Newsletter: Volume 4

Posted May 28th, 2008 by Padma "LadyLotus" Fuller

Freaky Creatures released it's latest newsletter. We wanted to share as much of it as we could with the fans that haven't signed up yet. The newsletter tells us about two characters in the world of Freaky Creatures: Miri Soria and Serran.

Here it is:"
Miri Soria "Miri Soria is a mystery. She arrived at Thorn Academy with her tuition fully paid, although she never knew whom by. Her natural talents took Miri to the top of her biology and genetics classes virtually overnight. She loves to study, but unlike most “bookworms,” she is extremely energetic and athletic. When the sun is out and the world is alive, Miri can hardly stop moving.
Miri has a powerful affinity for all living things. She can feel the emotions of plants and other living beings, including people-a power that can be as much of a drawback as an advantage, in certain circumstances. She keeps this power a secret, occasionally using it in her greenhouse, to sense what her plants need and provide it for them. The emotions of other people-especially the numerous students of Thorn Academy, can be a burden, one which Miri often tries to escape from through solitude. She has learned to control her natural impulses, but she can sometimes be overcome with emotion if she isn't careful. She's only completely free from the feelings of others when she's completely alone. Miri herself doesn't really know the extent of her power or where it might have come from. She knows very little of her origins at all..
At the Academy, when presented with all the possible creatures she could choose from, Miri was drawn to the plantlike Trapperns. One in particular fascinated Miri; its lime green color and yellow details struck her eye, and its soothing emotions appealed to her mind. She knew they could work together. She took it from the lab early, named it Serran and raised it on her own. The bond between them is very strong. Serran's moods change along with Miri's, almost as if the two share one mind.
Miri's friendship with Alexx led her to join him on his journey to find his father, but her own mysterious origins continue to haunt her. She has vague memories of a childhood, but it is blurry at best. Eventually, once Alexx's problem is solved, she hopes to go on her own adventure-even if the destination is the hidden worlds and spaces in her mind. Miri is determined to find out who she is."

Serran "Serran and Miri are a high-energy pair. When she chose Serran in the lab, he was fighting off an attack from a pack of other Trapperns. His desperate fight touched her heart, and she knew he had the fighting spirit she wanted in a creature.
Miri raised Serran in Thorn Academy's botany lab, where he was able to play with all kinds of unusual foliage. The little Trappern learned quickly, and Miri continually reinforced its love for her by feeding it treats and lavishing it with attention.
When it grew large enough, Miri decked Serran out with a row of sharp yellow fins on its head, a dangerously spiked back and thorny tail. Serran loved its new parts and put them to use in training class. Due to Miri's close empathic link with Serran-increased when she uses the battle matrix-in combat the two move as one. Both approach life and battle in unconventional ways, and they fight with speed, skill, and boundless energy. Serran, a one of a kind Trappern, is a fearsome opponent on the field of battle."
