RuneScape is a fantasy world where your child will be able to interact with as many as 2,000 other people per server. Here are the things that parent’s should be aware of if your child is playing RuneScape.

RuneScape is not actually aimed directly at kids, however it has drawn a lot of younger players, largely due to the fact that Runescape is free to play. The game play itself is not created for younger players, and can be quite difficult at times. The developers recommend the playing age be 13+ for this game.

Map of Runescape

As mentioned above, RuneScape has a free-to-play game version of the game. However, you will not be able to access everything that the game has to offer unless you become a subscriber. To be a subscriber costs between $5.00 and $7.95 a month, depending on your country. Subscribers have access to more all the areas of the RuneScape map.

Player safety is a huge concern to the developers. Jagex even has a large team dedicated solely to Customer Support. Jagex strives to keep the game a fun, safe and secure place to play in. If you need to report a serious incident or concern, you can email jagex at Parents@jagex.com.

Report

Your child can report any abuse they receive from another player in the game by simply clicking on the “Report Abuse” button that is on their screen. Players are able to report other players for a variety of things, including offensive language, asking a player for personal details, and item scamming.

RuneScape also runs a sophisticated chat filter that will detect and then blocks any profanities that another player may type into the chat window. Efforts are also made to block web addresses, telephone numbers and street addresses. There are also moderators in the game. Some moderators are staff members, but the majority are selected RuneScape players that have been given the moderator status, and the special abilities that go along with that responsibility.

It is a good idea to sit down with your child and go over the rules with them before allowing them to play the game. Make sure they know not to share any personal information over the computer.
